Skylarks hovering high above the fields would have spotted a new, turquoise stream running parallel to the Chelmer and Blackwater navigation. It's two thousand Walkers for Life, enjoying the Spring sunshine and raising money for Farleigh Hospice as they make their way from Heybridge Basin to Wharf Road.

Paper Mill Little Baddow

12:50 Paper Mill Lock – the start of the walk for softies – and the major refreshment stop for many.

First aid and a check point, too. 8 kilometres to go.

By the waterside, there's a house for sale, someone is painting his narrowboat whilst his partner displays home crafted rugs. A different walk sets off towards Little Baddow Church.
