Skylarks hovering high above the fields would have spotted a new, turquoise stream running parallel to the Chelmer and Blackwater navigation. It's two thousand Walkers for Life, enjoying the Spring sunshine and raising money for Farleigh Hospice as they make their way from Heybridge Basin to Wharf Road.

Ulting and Eavesdropping




Now 11:40, and our first stop. Hoe Mill Lock, just before the lovely canalside church at Ulting.

Conversations overtake us as we pause again at Barnes Lock [12:08] Part exchange in the motor trade – the rights of the customer – Birkenstocks – snakes in lakes.
